Job Title: Vessel Detailer / Boat Lift Operator

Reports To: Vessel Fleet Maintenance Manager
Salary : $15.00 per hour
Job Summary:
The Vessel Detailer / Boat Lift Operator at Chapman School of Seamanship holds a vital role in ensuring the immaculate appearance and operational readiness of the school's vessel fleet. Reporting directly to the Vessel Fleet Maintenance Manager, the incumbent will be responsible for detailing vessels, performing basic maintenance tasks, and operating boat lifts with a focus on safety and precision. As a Vessel Detailer / Boat Lift Operator, you will play a key part in upholding the high standards of vessel cleanliness and maintenance, supporting the overall mission of the Chapman School of Seamanship to provide exceptional maritime training programs for students and instructors. Key Responsibilities:
  1. Vessel Detailing and Maintenance:
    • Perform thorough vessel detailing to ensure vessels are spotless, free from dirt, grime, and debris, both inside and outside.
    • Conduct regular inspections of vessels to identify and report any signs of damage or wear, ensuring prompt repairs as needed.
    • Assist in basic maintenance tasks, including painting, polishing, and minor repairs under the guidance of the Vessel Fleet Maintenance Manager.
  2. Boat Lift Operation:
    • Safely operate boat lifts to launch and retrieve vessels from the water, following standard operating procedures and safety guidelines.
    • Ensure proper positioning of boats on the lifts and secure them to prevent accidents or damage during lift operations.
  3. Inventory Management:
    • Maintain a well-organized inventory of cleaning supplies, tools, and equipment required for vessel detailing and boat lift operation.
    • Notify the Vessel Fleet Maintenance Manager when supplies are running low and assist in restocking as needed.
  4. Safety Compliance:
    • Strictly adhere to all safety regulations and guidelines while handling vessels and operating boat lifts.
    • Conduct routine safety inspections on equipment and promptly report any malfunctions or hazards to the Vessel Fleet Maintenance Manager.
  5. Collaboration and Communication:
    • Work closely with the Vessel Fleet Maintenance Manager and team members to coordinate vessel maintenance schedules and prioritize tasks.
    • Communicate any issues or concerns related to vessel cleanliness or boat lift operations promptly and accurately.
  6. Adherence to School Policies:
    • Comply with all Chapman School of Seamanship policies and procedures, including safety protocols and environmental regulations.
    • Maintain high standards of professionalism and cleanliness as representatives of the school.
Qualifications and Skills:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in vessel detailing, boat lift operation, or a related field is preferred.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and dedication to maintaining vessels in top condition.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication skills for reporting issues or updates effectively.
  • Physical fitness and ability to lift heavy objects, bend, and work in outdoor conditions.
  • Commitment to safety and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new techniques and equipment.
Work Environment: This position primarily involves outdoor work on or near the water. The Vessel Detailer / Boat Lift Operator must be comfortable working in various weather conditions and have the physical capacity to perform manual tasks related to vessel detailing and boat lift operation.
