DDS4Vets is committed to transforming the lives of military veterans and their families by providing enduring solutions for the challenges of PTSD. We bridge the gap between the benefits veterans have earned and the access they too often lack. By building a network of dedicated advisors, supporters, and experts, DDS4Vets delivers lasting change—not temporary fixes.
Our Mission
To stand in the gap for veterans with PTSD, ensuring they receive the life-changing services they deserve—especially when the system falls short.
Our Vision
We envision a world where no veteran or family member affected by PTSD walks alone. Through relentless advocacy, education, and hands-on initiatives, we aim to foster a culture that not only understands but honors the deep sacrifice of service. Central to our work is promoting the profound bond between veterans and service dogs—a bond rooted in trust, healing, and dignity.
What We Do
Since 2019, DDS4Vets has provided five fully trained service dogs at no cost to veterans—two of whom were wounded during the Afghanistan exit in 2021. Each dog is presented at our annual Military Formal Gala in Jensen Beach, Florida, where community leaders, dignitaries, and supporters gather to witness the impact firsthand.
Every service dog is trained by Mike Colton, a 35-year K9 law enforcement veteran, and tailored to meet the veteran's unique physical and emotional needs. Training takes 12 to 15 months.
The cost per dog ranges from $25,000 to $60,000, which covers:
Professional training
Veterinary care and medical costs
Food and supplies
Travel, lodging, and meals for the veteran during their 5-week training immersion with the dog and Mike Colton
We don’t hand over a leash and walk away—we stand beside our veterans from start to finish.
