Downtown Stuart Streetscape & Undergrounding Project
Loading/Delivery Zones | Parking Options |Traffic Impacts
Work is underway on the Downtown Stuart Streetscape and Undergrounding Project, which includes utility undergrounding and streetscape improvements on Seminole Street, Osceola Street, St. Lucie Avenue, and Colorado Avenue.
One of the first visible changes will be the creation of two marked loading and temporary delivery zones:
• S.W. Flagler Avenue, adjacent to City Hall
• S.E. Osceola Street, east of South Colorado Avenue, next to Acacia Lodge and Oak & Ember
These zones will be clearly marked with yellow outlines, and signs will indicate “No Parking” from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily. Vehicles parked in these zones during posted hours are subject to ticketing.
Delivery trucks will begin using these zones starting Monday, April 14, and they will remain in effect through at least November 25, 2025.
Traffic Impacts: Week of 4/14/25
As part of the project, utility exploration will be taking place in the coming weeks. Expect lane closures, lane shifts, and flagmen on site. Please allow extra time for potential minor traffic delays.

STUART POLICE DEPARTMENT UPDATE
New Officers Sworn In
This week, Chief Tumminelli had the honor of swearing in two new officers to the Stuart Police Department—Officer Joshua St. Thomas and Officer Tyler McNally.
Please join us in giving a warm welcome to both officers as they begin their service with our community.
Officer Tyler McNally
Originally from New Jersey, Tyler moved to Florida with his family at age 13. Inspired by his father, a former New Jersey State Trooper, Tyler’s path into law enforcement was a natural one. In addition to his dedication to public service, Tyler is an experienced SCUBA diver, holding Open Water, Advanced Adventure Diver, and Nitrox certifications.
Officer Joshua St. Thomas
Joshua joins us from the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, where he served for six years. His experience includes roles as a Road Patrol Deputy, member of the Quick Response Force, and Field Training Officer. He is also a graduate of both the Broward Fire Academy and its EMT program, holding certifications from each.
We’re proud to welcome Officer McNally and Officer St. Thomas to the Stuart Police Department and look forward to their contributions to our team and the community. |

Employee Appreciation Week 2025
That's a Wrap!
What a week! The City of Stuart just wrapped up Employee Appreciation Week, and let’s just say—there was no shortage of food, fun, or fabulous vibes!
We kicked things off with “Welcome Aboard Monday”, where everyone got treated to a tasty continental breakfast and a heartfelt postcard from our City Commissioners. Huge shoutout to the Boys & Girls Club of Martin County for the awesome (and artistic!) breakfast bags!
Next up: “Fun Sock & Hat Wednesday”—and wow, did y’all bring the flair! From “Tummo” socks to runway-worthy hat-and-sock combos, the creativity was next level. Directors served up lunch with a side of style!
Game Day Thursday turned City Hall into a paper airplane testing ground. Curious visitors looked on as planes soared (and some crash-landed) from city hall's second-floor landing. Turns out, we’ve got a few hidden aviation pros in our midst!
And finally, we ended on a high (and sugary) note with “Sweet Ending Friday”—a sweet treat social that had everyone buzzing (and maybe regretting that third cookie). Gym time next week, anyone?
Big thanks to everyone who participated, and to all our rockstar employees who keep the City of Stuart running like clockwork—24/7! You are truly appreciated. |

Stay Fire-Safe During Dry Season: Tips for Homeowners
Florida’s dry season—typically from November through May—can be a beautiful time with lower humidity and cooler temps. But it also brings an increased risk of wildfires, especially in areas with lots of vegetation or near natural preserves. If you're a Florida homeowner, here are some simple and effective ways to reduce the risk of fire damage around your property:
1. Clear Out Yard Debris
Dry leaves, pine needles, and dead branches can act like kindling. Regularly rake and remove any buildup, especially from your roof, gutters, and around the base of your home.
2. Create a Defensible Space
Keep flammable plants, mulch, and woodpiles at least 30 feet away from your home. Consider using gravel or stone near your foundation instead of dry organic material.
3. Choose Fire-Resistant Landscaping
Swap out flammable shrubs for low-resin, fire-resistant plants like society garlic, flax lily, or lantana. Keep grass trimmed short and well-watered.
4. Maintain Equipment Safely
Be cautious when using lawn mowers or power tools that could spark during dry, windy conditions. Always keep a hose or extinguisher nearby.
5. Know Your Water Sources
Have hoses connected and ready to go, and if you have a well, consider a backup power source so your pump works during an outage.
6. Seal Up Structures
Screen or seal vents, eaves, and under-deck areas where embers could sneak in. Make sure fences or decks made of wood are treated and maintained.
7. Have an Evacuation Plan
If you’re in or near a fire-prone area, make sure your family knows what to do if you need to leave quickly. Keep important documents and emergency kits easy to grab.
Bonus Tip: Stay in the loop with local burn bans and fire conditions by following the Martin County Emergency Management Agency online.
A little preparation can go a long way toward keeping your home—and your loved ones—safe. Got a neighbor who could use this info? Pass it along and help your whole street stay fire-wise this season! |
