Employment increased by 228,000 jobs and the unemployment rate was changed little from 4.1% in March. Healthcare, social assistance, and transportation and warehousing saw increases, and federal government employment declined. The labor force participation rate changed little at 62.5%. Average hourly earnings rose by 9 cents (0.3%) to $36. The average workweek was unchanged at 34.2 hours.
 
According to the American Staffing Association, temporary help employment was 1.59% of total nonfarm employment in March.
